'Then as the horse wished...
they rose up through the air.
And soon they were soaring up
over the fair'

The Carousel Horse spends her days giving children rides at the fair, but secretly she dreams of something more . . . When a beautiful, sparkling princess appears and helps her break free from her carousel, the two of them soar into the sky on a grand journey that takes them to the moon and back, but where is home for the Carousel Horse? Discovering that might just be the greatest adventure of all.
With a lyrical rhyming text and stunning, luminous illustrations, this is a magical story about following your dreams and finding out where you belong - perfect for sharing at bedtime.

Written by the great Tony Mitton and published by Bloomsbury Children's Books, The Carousel Horse uses beautiful, lyrical text to create a story about friendship, curiosity and the power that comes from a sense of belonging.

My illustrations for this book combined pencil and Indian ink with digital colour. I was enchanted by Tony's story, and used my background as a landscape painter and a love of the traditions and colour of British steam fairs to create the look of the illustrations.

As a child reader, it was the tiny details in book illustrations that used to captivate me most. With this in mind, I added some extra details to this book, with the youngest readers in mind. Each of the animals and rides on the Carousel appears at least once in the pages of the story as a real thing. The panels around the top of the Carousel show the different places the horse and princess visit on their journey.
